Bashpa Sweda – Herbal Steam Therapy for Detox

Bashpa Sweda, also known as Ayurvedic steam therapy, is a traditional treatment that uses medicated herbal steam to open up bodily channels, eliminate toxins, and restore the flow of energy. Used both as a standalone therapy and as a pre-procedure in Panchakarma, Bashpa Sweda is ideal for those dealing with muscle stiffness, chronic pain, poor circulation or toxin overload.

This therapy helps the body sweat out deep-seated toxins (Ama), loosens stiffness, relaxes the nervous system and improves skin tone and digestion.

How Bashpa Sweda treatment works?

  • Preparation with Abhyanga - Often, Bashpa Sweda is preceded by Abhyanga (Ayurvedic oil massage) to loosen toxins from tissues and promote absorption of herbal benefits.
  • Steam Generation - Herbs like Nirgundi, Dashamoola, Eranda and Eucalyptus are boiled to create a potent steam blend suited to your body’s needs.
  • Steam Application - You are seated comfortably in a special steam box, where only your body is exposed to steam (the head remains outside). The steam circulates uniformly for 15–30 minutes, allowing your body to sweat naturally.
  • Post therapy Rest - After the session, the body is wiped dry and you’re advised to rest, hydrate and avoid cold exposure for a few hours.
